My favorite pastime--averaging only about 2,500 miles annually--keeps me from getting old and fat.
God gave me a most wonderful life partner 40+ years ago with my wife Rebecca. She has been the very best wife, lover, mother, confidante, and travel partner. I really could not ask for anything better:)

Like many, I rebelled against my religious upbringing during my teens, but thanks to the grace of God had a radical conversion one Summer between years in high school. That experience and many since--plus the influence of many friends and the study of Scripture--led to my/our participation in numerous churches and membership in several. To the left is a partial list. We are very comfortably Lutherans in theology and practice, although we are aware that numerous other Lutherans look at us rather doubtingly. When asked by students, "Why Lutheran?," my usual answer is, "Lutherans know how to drink beer and still be Christians, because our German ancestors invented it." Although it has been a rather circuitous and sometimes confusing journey, I am thankful for the wide range of experience and understanding that have contributed to the formation of a professor of historical theology. |
